Who we are
Rainbow Families Croatia (Dugine obitelji) is a Croatian non-governmental organization founded in 2011. We started as a support network for LGBTIQ people who are parents, planning to become parents, or interested in family life and parenthood.
Over the years, our work has expanded beyond family-related issues. Today, we advocate for the rights, visibility and equality of LGBTIQ people in Croatia through community building, education, public advocacy, legal support and strategic litigation.
What we do
Our activities include:
• support groups and community events for LGBTIQ people and families
• legal and psychological support
• advocacy for equal rights and non-discrimination
• public awareness campaigns and educational programmes
• strategic litigation aimed at advancing LGBTIQ rights
• cooperation with Croatian and international civil society organisations
We work with families, professionals, institutions, policymakers and the wider public to promote a society where everyone can live openly, safely and with equal rights.
Rainbow families in Croatia
Croatia introduced the Life Partnership Act in 2014, granting same-sex couples many of the rights and responsibilities available to married different-sex couples. Since then, a number of court decisions and administrative practices have further strengthened the legal recognition of rainbow families.
However, legal and social challenges remain. Many LGBTIQ people and families continue to face discrimination, legal uncertainty and barriers in accessing rights and services. Rainbow Families Croatia works to address these challenges through advocacy, legal action and community support.
Our vision
We believe that every person deserves equal treatment, dignity and respect, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or family status.
We envision a Croatia where rainbow families are fully recognised, where children grow up free from prejudice, and where all LGBTIQ people can participate equally in society.
